On Wednesday morning dozens of people re-occupied the Villa Amalias in Athens, a squat which had been an active community centre for over 20 years when it was evicted late last year. Barely two hours later, it was raided by Greek police from an elite anti-terrorist named the EKAM. 101 people inside the building were arrested. At roughly the same time, over 40 anarchist activists were also arrested when police raided the headquarters of the Democratic Left Party (DIMAR) which they had occupied in solidarity with the Villa Amalias.

On December 20th 2012, a celebrated occupation of the “Villa Amalias” was evicted by Greek Police. The well known centre with a long history of community organising, socialising and providing mutual support was emptied of all occupants. Eight have been arrested, from those who maintained and operated the Villa. Several more were arrested at a protest held in solidarity with those evicted.
