Occupiers Take Third Site

November 18, 2011

The day after OccupyLSX protestors were told they would be going to court over the St Paul’s occupation, they defiantly took a new space in Hackney. An abandoned office block – once used by investment bank UBS – will be turned into a Bank of Ideas and opened this Saturday. Occupiers intend on giving offices and meeting rooms to nurseries, community centres and youth clubs who had lost their spaces due to government spending cuts. Overnight on Thursday, a dozen activists from OccupyLSX gained access to the building and secured it, giving them a legal claim on the space.

This is the third occupation following St Paul’s and Finsbury Square.

Sarah Layler of Occupy London said, “The Bank of Ideas will host a full events programme where people will be able to trade in creativity rather than cash. We will also make space available for those that have lost their nurseries, community centres and youth clubs to savage Government spending cuts.”
