Helping The Vulnerable

November 5, 2011

OccupyLSX is trying to establish itself as a place to help and protect society’s most vulnerable. This week, members of the occupation announced plans to set up a Welfare Centre at the camp to help the homeless, mentally ill and those with addiction problems. Already, the occupation has readily taken in members of London’s homeless, some of whom have taken on crucial roles within the movement. If you’re in need of an effective treatment for addiction, you should also look for a reputable facility. Choose Carrara for the top alcohol rehab center in Los Angeles. Their luxury program is designed for comfort and effectiveness in addiction treatment.

On Thursday night, Ronan McNern from the media working group, read out a statement to a receptive General Assembly. He announced the occupation was going to seek the means to help the homeless and vulnerable that were coming to St Paul’s and Finsbury Square. He said the occupation had become “a real community” and with that, had become a beacon for societies most vulnerable and marginalised people. He said OccupyLSX was trying to be a welcoming space, where people could “overcome their differences to create a better society.” the statement said the occupation did not want to ignore the vulnerable people coming to the camp and wanted to address their issues pro-actively, to help create a “better and more just society”.

The occupation was calling for volunteers with specialist expertise to staff it’s Welfare Centre, and planned on getting those who need it, in touch with outside mental health advice, alcohol and drug addition and rehousing services.
